Homemade Almond Milk Recipe
Almond milk is my favorite substitute for dairy milk. Almonds have many health benefits and they are packed with vitamins, minerals & protein.
While it is readily available almost everywhere, we prefer making it ourselves . It gives better control on sweetness, flavour and we honestly just love the whole process.
Store bought almond milk may also contain a carcinogen called carrageenan that acts as a thickener. So, even more reason to make your own!
You need to soak your almonds in filtered water the night before. I like to use almonds with their skin on as it adds extra fibre and you can use the leftover meal after you strain your milk to make almond flour.
1 cup almonds
3 cups filtered water
2 vanilla pods or 2 tsp vanilla essence
A dash of Himalayan salt
Cover the almonds with water and soak overnight.
Strain the almonds and rinse.
Place the almonds with water and the rest of the ingredients in a blender and blend on high speed for about 2 min.
Pour your milk into glass containers, they last about 3-7 days in the fridge.
