Come Away with Chloé
We, At Motherkind have a mutual love, amongst many things, For The French Fashion House, Chloé.
We salute Gaby Aghion, the founder of the brand for creating Ready-To-Wear Couture, formally known as luxury Prêt-à-Porter.
Chloé has taken the fashion industry by storm-always evolving, inspiring and offering their customers & followers unique & beautiful pieces amongst a range that never fails to leave us speechless and of course, wanting to see more...
We thought it quite fitting to post the video advert that launched in May as it is centered around A Mother & her daughter.
First week in July The fashion house revealed Maison Chloé, A Hausmannian home & cultural space in the heart of Paris which allows you to explore its 65 year history-its theme: Femininities. The exhibition runs from the 4th July-6th September 2017 and We, at Motherkind are itching to go.
Our dream is to attend one of their infamous Paris Fashion Week shows (we can dream, can't we?).
A friend was lucky enough to intern at The Chloé Head Office in Paris. Here is what she has to say about her time working at the well renowned fashion house.
- Tell us about yourself?
Before we moved to France I was a Fashion buyer for ladieswear at Mr Price retailer, a South African fast fashion retailer. I loved my job because I worked with wonderfully creative people, travelled a lot, met great suppliers and I gained very valuable experience. I took a year off when we moved to Grenoble to settle in and enjoy the french lifestyle-I took french lessons, started enjoying to cook & buying all my fresh ingredients from the local market and I made lovely new friends. The following year I started my masters in Fashion Luxury Management at the Grenoble Ècole de Management. I was in a class of 28 students and we came from 18 different countries. It was such an enriching experience-we went on study trips to Milan, met people from Dior, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Kenzo, Ferrari and Cartier, we had tutors from the fashion industry and I made lifelong connections from all around the world. For my work experience I worked at Chloé in Paris for 6 months.
- What made you choose to intern at Chloé or why do you think Chloé chose you to intern for them?
I have always loved Chloé and their strong brand identity. They don't believe in big logos, but you always know if someone is wearing Chloé-the clothes and accessories have a certain free and effortless signature which I love. It is very feminine, but always with an edge. It is distinctly Parisian chic.
- A typical day working at Chloé entails?
I worked in product development for woven ready to wear. After the seasonal brief from the creative director, the designers will start drawing, as the drawings start coming in my team would anaylse them and work out how much fabric is needed to produce the garment, which trims to use and which suppliers would be best to make up the sample, but first we would send the new sketch to the atelier who would make the patterns and the first toiles. The toiles (a fit sample), would come to each fitting everyday where a model would try it on and the product development team, designers & creative director would look at it and make the changes where needed. If the fit sample is approved then the pattern, toile, fabric and trims are sent to the supplier and they make up a show sample. Our function was to manage the process from conception to show.
- Describe your personal style?
I have quite a feminine taste-I love florals & bright colours. Pink being my favourite. I love vintage dresses and faux fur coats. I love statement jewellery and uniques pieces that remind me of places I have visited.
- What is your favourite Chloé piece and why?
My Faye Bag! It is a classic Chloé bag and it will always remind me of my time spent at The Parisian Maison.
Thank you for your insightful interview Vasti-we loved hearing all about your experience working at Chloé and we look forward to hearing all about your next chapter...
