Golden milk

Golden milk

Tumeric has fast become the most versatile spice. It has the most beautiful deep yellow colour and don't get me started on how many health benefits it offers.

We love (Tumeric) Golden milk and it helps beat the cold weather blues as well as a wonder-worker for inflammation.

We add this spice to almost everything-lovely in salad dressings, in curries and is the main ingredient to many amazing home-made face masks and treatments.

Here is my favourite Golden milk latté that I have tweaked over the months:

IMG_3517 (1).jpg

  • 2 C unsweetened almond milk
  • 2 tsp tumeric powder or grated Curcuma
  • 2 tsp virgin coconut oil
  • 1 tsp grated fresh ginger
  • 2 black peppercorns, crushed
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon powder or you can break a cinnamon stick in two & add to pot
  • 1/2 tsp nutmeg powder
  • 1/4 tsp cardamom
  • 2 tsp raw honey (I use Manuka honey) or maple syrup

I love making it on the stove. I start by adding the almond milk and coconut oil to a small pot. To a small bowl I add all the other ingredients and I make into a paste, I then transfer this paste into the pot & whisk-the whisking blends everything together and the motion along with the heat creates a slight froth. Transfer to mugs and sprinkle with cinnamon. You can easily add 1 Tbsp raw cacao powder to this recipe-the kids will love it and it will mask the taste of the spices as they can be quite strong.

This golden latté is the perfect hot drink to keep warm during the cold months or perfect before bed to induce fatigue and help you get a good night sleep. There is no reason why this can't be enjoyed room temperature during any season.
